Trivia:
In addition to cutting it, Julianne Moore dyed her signature red hair blonde for the film. This made her very uncomfortable because people were giving the new color so much attention. moreGoofs:
Revealing mistakes: When the children steal the supermarket trolley, and the camera is above the street, you can see clearly that the children push the trolley around a car and the sidewalk - yet they are supposed to be blind. moreFAQ

Everyone is caught on surprise when an epidemic of white blindness appears. No one seems to be immune to the disease but a doctor's wife. The infected are quickly quarantined by the authorities in an old mental hospital and everyday new infected individuals come in.As chaos installs both in the mental hospital and in the "outside society" we get to see the true human nature... Blindness is based on a 1995 novel by Portuguese novelist José Saramago but I can assure you the movie stands on his own.Blindness is a brilliant movie, almost flawless as I see it and quite an experience. Its overwhelming to watch the infected in the mental hospital as they go trough the different phases...their first instinct it to build some sort of society based on fairness and justice but people start to disagree.Because there's no organized political form there's no authority and therefor no punishment so it doesn't take to long for anarchy to begin. Then comes survival of the fittest. This is what is fascinating about this movie...the human nature, the human instincts, the clash between one's moral and his willing to survive. The literal blinding of the characters is obviously a metaphor for the human being's moral blindness...the inability to share another's point of view. The way the film was shot gives us a good perspective of what the characters are experiencing and I really like the fact that the film isn't set in any recognizable countries plus the characters are from different parts of world, this emphasizes the universality of the film.Mark Rufallo was great but so was Julianne Moore and Gael Garcia Bernal. Great choices by Fernando Meirelles. Blindness is one of the best movies of 2008 and I'm looking forward to read the novel.
