Great International Poster for Dominic Sena's Whiteout

21 November 2008 11:08 AM, PST | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Warner Brothers recently released an international poster for Whiteout, a freezing cold comic book adaptation starring Kate Beckinsale that has been delayed for quite a while. Whiteout is based on Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's graphic novel that Oni Press published in 1998. It was first announced early last year and was entirely shot and in the can by May of 2007. Since then, Warner Brothers has kept delaying it, pushing its release all the way to September of 2009. I'm not sure if we'll ever get to see it, but we at least have a fairly awesome poster to hold us over for another year. This reminds me a lot of the poster for The X-Files: I Want to Believe - but this time I actually want to see this movie. Take a look! Those of us lucky enough to attend Warner Brothers' presentation at Comic-Con in 2007 were treated ...

The X Files: I Want To Believe (DVD Review)

21 November 2008 9:59 AM, PST | From Fangoria.com | See recent Fangoria news

Was it really 15 years ago that I was at the Jackson Hole burger restaurant on Third Avenue, having lunch with Fango managing editor Michael Gingold and talking about this new show on Fox called The X Files? I remember telling Mike how this series was unlike anything on television, an attempt to do true, go-for-the-throat horror whose two unknown leads managed to draw viewers in while increasing the sense of spooky realism.

By the end of that lunch, Mike had asked me to do an episode guide for the first season (The first of eight—Fango decided not to cover the last season), thus starting the relationship I have had with the magazine to this very day. And now, six years after Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny walked away from the FBI and the mess of monsters, paranormal powers and conspiracies the series had become, I find myself sitting in

'X-Files 3' to Deal With Alien Colonization

18 November 2008 1:43 AM, PST | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

If another "The X-Files" movie was to be made, it will most likely see the return of the aliens to the sci-fi film. Talking to MovieWeb in the promotional effort for "The X-Files: I Want to Believe" DVD version, writer/producer Frank Spotnitz states, "Yeah. I mean, if we were to make one more feature, I think we would definitely have to deal with alien colonization."

He also hints that the third movie may be the last of the series. "I would think so," he notes when asked whether "The X-Files 3" would be the final closure film. "It certainly would be designed to be the period on the sentence." Meanwhile, on the possible date the movie will come out, Spotnitz suggests late 2012 to be one of the potential release dates.

"There's a date that looms very important in X-Files mythology, which is December 2012. I think after the DVD comes out,

Fox Does it Again: Luhrmann Forced to Alter 'Australia' Ending

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman in Australia

Photo: 20th Century Fox This Article Contains A Spoiler For The End Of Australia. I recently had an idea to post an article headlined "Guess the Studio". I was going to then describe a series of situations based on actual events while hiding the true identity of any film or person involved and see if people would guess it was in fact 20th Century Fox that was being described. Here is a studio that seems to have zero respect for artistic opinion and the suits over there seem to believe they have the answer to everything. This year Fox has delivered such piles as: Deception Jumper What Happens in Vegas The Happening The X-Files: I Want to Believe Max Payne And those are just the titles I saw. News Corp Predicts "Grim" Year

6 November 2008 10:47 AM, PST | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

News Corp said today (Thursday) that its first-quarter earnings plunged 30 percent to $515 million from $732 million during the same period a year ago. It blamed cutbacks in local advertising at its owned stations, particularly reductions in automotive, telecommunications and movie ad sales. "It's a pretty grim picture for all local television stations across the country," News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch told analysts during a telephone conference. The 20th Century Fox film studio did not escape the overall nosedive, due to the disappointing ticket sales for such films as Meet Dave and The X-Files: I Want to Believe. Likewise sales of DVDs distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment took a beating. Altogether, filmed entertainment plunged 31 percent. One area that brightened the company's financial picture was Fox News Channel, which reported a 30-percent rise in operating profit from the year-ago period. Murdoch also indicated that the outlook for 2009 was also bleak. After forecasting in August a 6-percent rise in profit for its fiscal year ending June 30, the company said today that its profit would likely drop by a percentage in the low-to-mid teens. Shares in News Corp were down more than 16 percent in late-afternoon trading.

X-Files 3 Movie Update

16 October 2008 12:06 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

When The X-Files: I Want To Believe bombed this past summer at the U.S. box office it looked like the end of the sci-fi franchise. However the film has grossed a pretty decent $70 million worldwide off of a modest budget of $30 million, so it is firmly in the column marked profit. All this and the DVD sales haven’t even been factored in yet.

Now Fox head Tim Rothman has stated that he’d be up for a third film in the series, and all that it will take for the film to get a green light is commitment from Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

When asked by IESB about the film Rothman said:

“It’s really up to Chris, David, and Gillian.”

“It wasn’t a matter of the money, that was the film that Chris wanted to do. He was determined to do a stand alone film,

David Duchovny, Demi Moore join ‘The Joneses’ - SPOILER!

20 September 2008 7:56 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

David Duchovny, Demi Moore and Amber Heard will team up to star in Derrick Borte’s directorial debut “The Joneses,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The film focuses on a seemingly perfect family that moves into a suburban community and leaves an excellent first impression with the neighbors. Truth is however that they are a fake family sent to live among consumers in order to promote new luxury products.

Duchovny is set to play the dad, who’s battling a personal crisis because he finds it hard to live a lie. Moore plays the wife, who slowly develops real feelings for her fake husband. Heard is the daughter who’s on the lookout for a rich guy.

Sounds awesome to me at this stage. Duchovny has the perfect face to play this kind of guy, and I remember he and Gillian Anderson once did a totally convincing job playing a

X-Files 3 Straight To DVD? [Updated]

18 August 2008 2:41 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

[Update: This rumor has been debunked]

I think that it is pretty safe to say that The X-Files: I Want To Believe was a bit of a disappointment, both commercially and critically. And to make matters worse, it also let down a lot of fans.

X-Files fans are a dedicated bunch who helped the show become a phenomenon and to disappoint them is a pretty big deal. As Screen Rant’s resident X-File fan even I was a bit let down by the film.

Before the release of the second feature there was a lot of talk of the franchise continuing in a series of films, but due to the poor box office ($20 million domestic) it looked like The X-Files had come to its natural conclusion.

But has it?

Dread Central got a scoop that states a third film in the series is a go - but it will be heading straight to DVD.

Ok, so The X-Files: I Want To Believe was a bust. Just an all around bummer. But would you be interested in a third X-Files movie? Heck, I wasn't even that interested in a second X-Files movie but I'd at least like them to try and fix what they wronged with this summer's installment. Knight Crosses $400-Million Mark in 18 Days

5 August 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight on Monday sprinted past the $400-million mark in ticket sales 18 days after it was released, thereby setting a new box-office record and beating the 43-day record set by Shrek 2 in 2004 in reaching that milestone. The film earned $6,287,429 on Monday to bring its total gross to $400,038,494, according to Media By Numbers. Earlier, the box-office tracking group had indicated that the actual results for the weekend had not been so hardy as studios had estimated. Knight, which had been expected to earn $43.8 million, actually came in at $42.6 million, and Universal's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which had been expected to earn $42.5 million, actually came in at $40.5 million. Meanwhile, on MSNBC.com, film commentator Erik Lundegaard argued that there is little chance that The Dark Knight will be able to challenge Titanic for the title of the highest-grossing movie in history. Suggesting that from here on out the movie will depend on repeat business if it is to gross $600 million -- as Titanic did -- Lundegaard commented, "Fanboys are fanboys, but there are no repeat customers like teenage girls in love with Leonardo DiCaprio." Lundegaard noted that the fall-off in ticket sales for Knight closely mirrors that of last year's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. If it continues to do so, he observed, Knight will probably end up with a domestic total of $515 million.

The top ten films over the weekend, according to final figures compiled by Media by Numbers (figures in parentheses represent total gross to date):1. The Dark Knight, Warner Bros., $42,664,219, 3 Wks. ($393,751,065); 2. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Universal, $40,457,770, (New); 3. Step Brothers, Sony, $16,506,526, 2 Wks. ($63,172,026); 4. Mamma Mia!, Universal, $12,615,515, 3 Wks. ($87,470,125); 5. Journey to the Center of the Earth, Warner Bros., $6,662,406, 4 Wks. ($72,927,314); 6. Swing Vote, Disney, $6,230,669, (New); 7. Hancock, Sony, $5,087,756, 5 Wks. ($215,883,222); 8. Wall-e, Disney, $4,603,179, 6 Wks. ($204,078,076); 9. The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Fox, $3,385,878, 2 Wks. ($17,021,373); 10. Space Chimps, Fox, $2,720,177, 3 Wks. ($21,971,016).

Knight And Mummy In Tight Race

4 August 2008 10:33 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight remained the No. 1 movie at the domestic box office for the third weekend in a row, taking in an estimated $43.8 million and edging out the debut of Universal's The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor, which took in $42.4 million. Mummy bested Knight on a per-theater basis, however, coming in with an average of $11,303 at 3,760 theaters versus $9,939 for Knight at 4,266 theaters. The results left Knight sitting on the edge of $400 million at $395 million after 17 days in release. Many analysts predicted the film could cross the magic number by today (Monday), it's 18th day in release, thereby setting yet another record. Previously the record for hitting $400 million in ticket sales in the shortest amount of time is held by last year's Shrek, which did it in 43 days. Many analysts have also begun predicting that the movie has a strong possibility of surpassing Titanic, which holds the record as the biggest earner of all time with $601 million. The only other film to open wide over the weekend was Kevin Costner's Swing Vote, which audiences voted down with just $6.3 million.

The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers: 1. The Dark Knight, $43.8 million; 2. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, $42.5 million; 3. Step Brothers, $16.3 million; 4. Mamma Mia!, $13.1 million; 5. Journey to the Center of the Earth, $6.9 million; 6. Swing Vote, $6.3 million; 7. Hancock, $5.2 million; 8. Wall-E, $4.7 million; 9. The X-Files: I Want to Believe, $3.4 million; 10. Space Chimps, $2.8 million.
