Pattinson Credits Father For Helping Rise To Fame
5 December 2008 4:11 AM, PST
Twilight star Robert Pattinson is still in shock over his rise to movie stardom - and credits his dad for helping him become a Hollywood sex symbol.
The British actor has been catapulted to stardom thanks to his role as teen vampire Edward Cullen in the movie adaptation of the cult book.
Pattinson is as surprised as anyone at his new found status as Hollywood hunk - and concedes he has dad Richard to thank for kickstarting his acting career.
He says, "It's all a bit of a surprise, the acting and fame. I never did acting in school. My dad was in a restaurant and saw a bunch of pretty girls and decided to go up and ask where they had been.
"They said they went to this drama club, so he said we'd better go down too! It's the only time he's done something like that. We went down there and I began to work backstage.
"Then one day I was the only one left to play a leading role. That was the first acting I'd done and yet somehow I got an agent."
Winfrey Was Snubbed By Palin
5 December 2008 4:11 AM, PST
Oprah Winfrey has slammed failed Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin - after she snubbed offers to be interviewed on the U.S. TV titan's show.
Palin discussed her unsuccessful bid to reach the White House with U.S. hosts Greta Van Susteren, Matt Lauer and Larry King, but failed to appear as a guest on Winfrey's popular daytime TV show - despite being invited.
And Winfrey is bitter about being ignored by Palin - insisting the Alaskan governor will be desperate to talk to her when she releases her memoirs.
She says, "I said I would be happy to talk to Sarah Palin when the election was over... I went and tried to talk to Sarah Palin and instead she talked to Greta. She talked to Matt. She talked to Larry. But she didn't talk to me. Maybe she'll talk to me now that she has a (multi-million dollar) book deal."
The chatshow queen was a staunch supporter of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama throughout his campaign for the White House - and will host her show from Washington, D.C. the day before his inauguration in January.
Kidman Shames Jackman With Faint Revelation
5 December 2008 4:11 AM, PST
Australia actress Nicole Kidman has ruined her co-star Hugh Jackman's hunky image - after revealing he fainted on the first day of shooting the Baz Luhrmann epic.
Kidman stars opposite the X-Men actor in the World War II blockbuster set in the Aussie outback.
In November, the pale actress admitted she had to be rushed to hospital after fainting on horseback while filming her scenes in the blistering heat.
And the Oscar winner confesses she wasn't the only one to struggle with the scorching temperatures - Jackman collapsed just hours after the cameras started rolling.
She tells Britain's The Independent newspaper, "Obviously, I'm very fair-skinned and that's not where I'm at ease (the outback). I remember sitting on a horse and thinking, 'Gosh, this is what you feel like before you faint,' and then I fainted.
"Hugh fainted too on the first day. He keeled over on his horse at a 45-degree angle."

Rodriguez: 'Madonna Is Just A Pal'
5 December 2008 4:11 AM, PST
Baseball star Alex Rodriguez has spoken out about his reported relationship with Madonna - insisting the pair are just "friends".
The sports hero and the pop superstar have been linked since his ex-wife Cynthia's lawyer alleged the baseball player had an "affair of the heart" with the Material Girl singer.
Reports of a romance were further fuelled when Madonna announced her split from Guy Ritchie after seven-and-a-half years of marriage in October. Their quickie divorce will be finalised in the New Year.
Rodriguez has also been spotted supporting the singer at a number of concerts on her Sticky + Sweet tour.
But he denies claims the duo have fallen straight into a romance - and finds it hilarious that the world's press has blown their relationship out of context.
He tells People.com, "We're friends - that's it.
"I've been to two (of her) concerts, yet I've read that I went to 20. I've also read that we were buying an apartment together. That is absolutely ridiculous and not true.
"You have to have a sense of humour when it comes to this stuff."

He says, "Once I got up on the edge (of the bridge) it (mind) literally just started racing and (I had) every thought of death possible. It was like, 'I could cross over here.'"

Moore Was Fleming's First Choice For 007

Roger Moore was author Ian Fleming's first choice to play James Bond - and he almost landed the superspy role ahead of Sean Connery.
Moore eventually replaced the Scottish star and portrayed 007 for 12 years, but he could have been Bond for much longer, had producers listened to Fleming as they were casting Bond's 1962 debut Dr. No.
The actor reveals he was considered as the lead for the film.
He tells Entertainment Weekly magazine, "That's what they told me, at least. They also said I was Ian Fleming's first choice. But Ian Fleming didn't know me from s**t. He wanted Cary Grant or David Niven."
Niven actually played Sir James Bond in 1967's Casino Royale. The film is not considered one of the 22 official Bond films.
No Speed For Reeves
4 December 2008 11:28 PM, PST

It was recently reported that movie executives at 20th Century Fox are keen for Reeves to reprise his role as Jack Traven for a second follow-up to the 1994 disaster movie.
The actor pulled out of the flop 1997 sequel, which starred Sandra Bullock and Jason Patric, and has now announced that if film bosses insist on making a third picture, he definitely won't be involved.
He tells IGN Movies, "I honestly don't know anything about it. I don't know if they are going to make another one, and if they are it won't be with me... honestly!"
But Reeves admits there is one film sequel project that he would be interested in - a third movie in his hit Bill + Ted franchise.
He adds, "Well you know, never say never... Maybe we could do it with them both grown up - they haven't saved the world and they're just living their lives as middle-aged men. That sound's quite funny."
